Bacopa monnieri has been traditionally used in Ayurveda for centuries primarily as a mental tonic and also to reduce anxiety. Recent clinical trials with bacopa have shown an increase in memory retention as well as an improvement in the acquisition of data. Bacopa excels as a cerebral antioxidant, significantly toning down the sympathetic nervous system, causing a reduction of anxiety and over-excitement in the brain. Bacopa also strengthens cognition while stimulating neuronal growth when used on a regular basis. Bacopa produces an immediate tranquilizing and pacifying effect, and may be considered as the “Ayurvedic nootropic”.
