Cistanche deserticola, also known as Rou Cong Rong, and its relatives are endangered desert-dwelling parasitic plants that lack chlorophyll and obtain their nutrients and water from neighboring plants. The plant is not yet listed as endangered but the harvesting is currently being monitored.
Cistanche is a tonic kidney herb, working much like Panax ginseng but working in a more nourishing rather than stimulating way, supporting sexual potency, counteracting fatigue, improving fertility for both sexes, reducing lower back pain, enhancing the immune system, supporting the circulatory system, improving memory, slowing signs of aging, and speeding up post-workout recovery.
