Mulungu, also known as Erythrina mulungu, is a South American herb found in the Caatinga ecoregions in Brazil, traditionally used as a fish poison, sedative, for insomnia, and to reduce blood pressure. Mulungu is claimed to be one of the strongest herbal sedatives available, even claimed by some to outperform kava.
Mulungu is famous for its effects on inflammation, muscle relaxation, pain relief, and anxiety. It has been used as both a medicinal and a tonic by indigenous tribes in the Amazon rainforests, and its traditional history matches its modern use. Mulungu’s pharmacology suggests that it works through both the nicotinic acetylcholine and the GABAergic systems.

New
We just launched a new 2:1 Erythrina mulungu bark full-spectrum extract. The only excipient used is starch as a placeholder for the spray dry method in which it is formulated, which preserves the important thermally sensitive constituents within the plant. Dosage is 200-1000mg (0.2-1g), never recommending to exceed 2000mg (2g). It’s very effective in the sub gram dosage range and saves time without having to perform a tedious boil of the bark powder.
Constituents
Tetrahydroisoquinoline alkaloids, erysothrine, erythravine, (+)-11α-hydroxy-erythravine
Use
Mulungu can be boiled in water to make tea or powder taken straight with water. The recommended dose is 1-4 teaspoons.
