Rehmannia glutinosa, also known as Sheng Di Huang or Shu Di Huang, is one of the 50 fundamental herbs of Traditional Chinese Medicine and is the premier tonic along with He Shou Wu for tonifying Kidney Yin. It is frequently referred to as the ‘Food of the Kidneys’.

Rehmannia has anti-inflammatory properties and can help manage stress and irritability as well as anxiety. The root excels as a tonifying agent, bringing an out-of-balance body back into homeostasis. It excels at those who are experiencing adrenal insufficiency, including adrenal fatigue, and can help increase energy levels without depleting the body’s reserves much like how stimulants like caffeine can.

Use
4-12 grams. High doses upwards of 14-28 grams are quite enjoyable and energizing, however, one does not need to take quite so much of the herb in order to achieve the nourishing and revitalizing effects it provides.

Rehmannia powder can be eaten as is and can also be added to a smoothie, a broth, or added to water or tea. The powder has a taste reminiscent of chocolate and blends well with cocoa, Cordyceps, Mucuna, Fo-ti, Tribulus, Ashwagandha, Guarana, and other nutty/starchy-tasting herbs. Rehmannia also makes a great addition to the ‘Catuama’, ‘Egyptian Chocolate’, ‘Mayan Chocolate’, or ‘Kundalini Coffee’ blend formulations.
